All right folks – here’s another Dead at WIDR for you to wash your food down with. We had Cloud Mouth stop in before they headed up to Grand Rapids to pay the DAAC a visit. These guys happen to play shows with Michigan favorites Victor! fix the Sun and The Repitilian rather often. So, if you happen to like these bands, you should do yourself a favor and listen to this here Dead at WIDR as well heading over to their MYSPACE. Check out the three song sampler below!
Today we had the pleasure of having The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo stop by the studio today to record a Dead at WIDR for you all to enjoy. These folks brought with them a few acoustic guitars and put down some impressive work… You can see them at Founders Brewery up in Grand Rapids for FREE tonight if you happen to be in the area. You can visit Andreas and Goran on the internet at their website.
For a sample, please see below. To download the entire performance, click HERE.
All right folks – it’s a hot summer and we have the sounds you need. Last Saturday the People’s Temple from Lansing stopped by the studio and recorded some tracks for you all to enjoy – perhaps with your favorite unsweetened powdered drink mix.
To visit these gents in the internet, you can visit their myspace HERE. Check out the three song sample below and head to our Dead at WIDR area to download this and many more.
Right now, Omaha Nebraska’s Husbands are recording an in-studio for the Dead at WIDR series. Tonight, they will be playing the Corner Bar on Vine St. around 9 pm, accompanied by Coma Nova. This is part of their midwestern tour, which started in their hometown and worked its way to Michigan. Last night, they played the Basement 414 in Lansing.
Husbands’ sound is spacey, noisy indie rock in the classic trio format. Former Kalamazoo resident David Ozinga bangs the drums, and he is joined by Devin M and Brendan M on bass and guitar/vocals, respectively.
You can check out their in-studio performance later this week, and to hear the band’s tunes, you can visit their myspace page.
Who would bring you two new in-studios in the same week? Only WIDR FM, of course! Both of these fine performances are brought to you by the WIDR audio interns.
This past weekend, garage-rockers Doomstar from Cambridge, Mass. came by to tear shit up, and you can check out the entire performance HERE or play a 3-song sample below!
Also, check out a slightly more subdued performance by NY indie-rockers matt pond PA. Full podcast HERE and 3-song sampler below!
Despite the WIDR-Week commotion, we made time for another in-studio performance this weekend. Past Lives, a band from Seattle, formed out of the ashes of the legendary Blood Brothers in 2007. They play some experimental rock music that WIDR listeners can probably get down with. Check out a 3-song preview below, and download the full podcast here!
Greetings once again, radio people. Here’s another spankin’-new in-studio for you to sink your teeth into. We’ve got just shy of a half-hour of Chicago solo artist the Singleman Affair. Armed with an acoustic guitar and some roomy reverb courtesy of WIDR’s gear, he cranked through a handful of tunes before heading off to a gig at The Strutt (which hopefully you caught).
Station favorite Owen Ashworth (aka Casiotone for the Painfully Alone) stopped by the WIDR studios and gave us an exclusive in-studio performance this past weekend. Owen wanted to edit the recording himself and cut the whole thing down to 10 tracks instead of the 15 or so that were recorded, so here’s the Casiotone-approved version of it. Below is a 3-track sample mp3 of the performance, and you can download the full performance at the WIDR FM podcast page by clicking here.
This past week, we had a couple things around the station that were worth recording. First, on Saturday afternoon, a wonderful garage-rock combo from the Detroit area called The Sights came through and gave us a brief but ass-kicking in-studio performance. You can find that HERE, on our Dead @ WIDR podcast page. They played a really cool Kinks cover for sound check, but there’s no actual recording of it, so damn.
Second, WIDR directors Jeremy and Dave conducted an on-air interview with Fred Schneider, former leader of the B-52’s and currently a member of The Superions. Click here to be taken to the WIDR interviews podcast page.
